Extremely Realistic Motorsports Simulator
Motorsports News | Justin Anfinson | January 20, 2010 at 7:10 pmWhile I was poking around the internet the other day, I found a site called iRacing.com. Thus far it is the most realistic online racing simulator I have seen and I’ve tried nearly everything out there.
It is not a piece of software that you download or purchase from a store. Instead, everything is done online and is subscription based. It provides you with a choice of 17 cars and 38 road/oval tracks with a possible 94 configurations.
The cars are all assembled with painstaking measures to ensure that each mass, angle and dimension is taken into effect. They are not just a collection of data roaring around a virtual track, they are a mathematical representation of the real world equivalent. iRacing.com has worked with all of the manufacturers to achieve this goal. Through the use of a unique physics engine, calculations are made to replicate the dynamic forces of a real race car.
Three dimensional laser scanning technology is used to produce an accurate rendering of each track in the simulation. Everything from track imperfections to exact track graphics is accomplished through this scanning technology to give drivers what they need to really see and feel the racing environment.
iRacing has also announced that they have made a deal with Williams F1 to produce the AT&T Williams FW31 which should be exciting!
